Table Tennis by Paul Myers

Ash F and Bourne B remain the only teams at this early stage not to have lost a match in the Third Division of the Aldershot and District Table Tennis League. Ash F are in the top spot after beating club rivals Ash G 6-4 but they only hold a three points cushion over Bourne B (who have a game in hand) who beat Tennis G 8-2. Dave Bentall was the man of the match for Ash F winning all three with John Hayman doing the same for Bourne B. Broadmoor B level with Bourne B on points thrashed Tennis F 9-1 thanks to Mark Armstrong and Pu Zhang trebles. Ron Wale saved Tennis's blushes by beating Dick Deacon (2wins) to prevent the whitewash. The young squad of Farnham Cohesion A edged out the experienced Cody C 6-4 to gain their first win of the season.Farnham's Dong Ming Lau was the top dog bagging a treble and Dean Robertson two with David Thomas doubling up for Cody. Going into the last set Farnham held a 5-4 advantage with at that stage the two unbeaten players Thomas and Ming Lau up against each other. Thomas took the first two games 11-6 and 11-0 and seemed sure too win the third. However Dong Ming Lau had other ideas and after having lost the previous game, game love he turned the set on its head winning 11-1, 11-5 and in a tense finale 11-9 to give his team the win. Frimley D beat Fleet CC B 6-4 thanks to doubles from Bob Holmden and Gary Nicholson with Mark Holbrook unbeaten for the losing side.

In Division One Farnham Central A beat Ash C 10-0 with Central B beating Shackleford. Phil Snelson, Norman Swift and Paul Massey were all in treble form in the romp with the most interesting game going the way of Paul Massey. After three games Mike Levey was leading two games to one (11-6, 2-11 & 11-8) only for Paul Massey to win the next 19-17 to take the set to a decider in which he won cosily 11-3, to do his team proud. Central B beat Shackleford 8-2 with Graham Watts as per usual trebling up. Central's Trevor Spraggs and Pete Millard won two each losing out to Shackleford's Dennis Perrett who also grabbed a brace. Ash B trounced an under strength Bentley A 10-0 with Dave Halfpenny, Dave Gilham and  Nick Mills all grabbing hat-tricks.

Bentley B continue to set the pace in Division Four thanks to the great form of Anton and Pavol Bris who both won all three in an 8-2 victory over Cody F. Frimley E beat lowly Ash K 8-2 with the useful Roger Whichelow trebling up and the improving Stephen Bridle and Paul Phelan winning two each. In reply John Hutchinson won a brace for Ash. Farnham Cohesion B won their first match of the season 6-4 beating bottom team Cody F 6-4 thanks to a Chris Saville hat-trick, with Nigel Roberts and Kim Phillips replying with two each for Cody. Ash H beat Fleet CC C 6-4 and from looking at the scorecard this looked a great match. Ron Davies was the star man winning all three for Ash in some real tight sets but the shock on the night was the hard to beat Dave Phillips (2wins) defeat to Roy Chittenden who grabbed a brace on the night.

Finally in Division Two there were good wins for Frimley B, Fleet CC A and Cody B. Frimley B beat Tennis E 8-2 with Derek Seager grabbing a hat-trick and ably assisted by Nigel Oh and Hilary Greig who won two each. Fleet CC A got off the mark for the season beating Ash D 7-3 with David Joyce, Sameer Patak and Chris Carter all doubling up on the eve. Cody B beat Ash E 7-3 with the wily ole fox John Harvey winning all three and Jock Docherty two.
