The Aldershot and District Table Tennis League 2009/10 Season has started with everybody looking forward to the new challenges facing them.
In Division One defending champions Broadmoor A have started off their campaign in fine fettle with a 9-1 win against Central C. John Millward and Clive Banham both picked up hat-tricks with Barry Morton grabbing a brace. Dave Phelps prevented the whitewash with his single but on a bad night for Central C, Robin Pretty injured his back against Clive Banham and could be out for a while. Shackleford beat a two man Ash B side 7-3 with Dennis Perrett unbeaten on the evening while Nick Mills grabbed a duo for Ash. Ash A however have made a better start than their B side by beating Bentley A 7-3. Ross Saxby was the man of the match for Ash winning all three which included a five set thriller against Bentleys Steve French (2wins). Last years Division Two winners and runners up, Ash C and Tennis B(now Tennis A) clashed for the first match of their seasons in the higher division and they shared the spoils. John Taylor was in awesome form winning all three for the tennis men with Nigel Care and Alan Gess doubling up for Ash C.
Farnborough Tennis B after struggling in Division One last season have got off to a great start in Division Two, recording a 9-1 victory against Ash D. Jack Davies (2wins) lost the first rubber to Bob Murrell but Tennis then turned the screw winning the next nine rubbers for a comfortable win. Stuart Middlemiss and Dave Hewitt both trebled up for the tennis men. Club rivals Tennis C have also made a good start by beating Bourne A 8-2. Graham Dickson won all three with Brian Hartles and Kevin Bown backing him up well winning two each. Cody B started their season off well with a comfortable 8-2 win against Fleet CC A thanks to hat-tricks from Kin Chan and John Harvey. Cody A also made a winning start beating Ash E 7-3. Paul Mission claimed a treble and Dave Stenning two for Cody with Diane Melville grabbing a brace for Ash. Frimley B's Derek Seager claimed a full house in his sides 7-3 win against Tennis D in which Chris Lines and Robert Brittain bagged two each only losing out to Tennis's Neil Print on the evening.
In Division Three there were many close matches with the biggest win being Cody C's 7-3 victory against promoted Fleet CC B. David Thomas claimed a hat-trick and Bruce McPherson two for Cody with the improving Mark Holbrook bagging a duo for Fleet. Farnham Cohesion A drew with Tennis H with Dong Ming Lau, Chris Secker, Elliott Tilley and Colin Baggott all winning two on the night. Frimley C's Anthony Connelly bagged a treble and Tony Harrison two in their sides 6-4 win against Ash G with Ray Mears winning two for Ash. Ash F beat Tennis F 6-4 in what was another tight match in this division. Les Knight was the man of the match winning all three and Terry French two for Ash with Ian Brown winning two for the Tennis men.
Frimley E have made a great start to their Division Four campaign by beating Cody F 9-1 in which David Mackinnon and Paul Phelan both grabbed hat-tricks. Codys Vic King beat Stephen Bridle (2wins) to prevent the whitewash. Bentley B's Les Vaill claimed a full house with Anton and Pavol Bris winning two each in their sides 8-2 win against Farnham Cohesion B with Chris Saville winning a brace for Farnham. Fleet CC C beat Ash K 7-3 with Roy Chittenden, Graham Massey and John Allen all grabbing braces but John Hutchinson was unbeaten on the night claiming the man of the match honours for Ash. Ash J and Cody E fought out a draw with Norrie Short claiming a hat-trick for Cody. George Carder and Josh Taylor won two each for Ash with Joshs match against Norrie being the game of the night with Norrie scraping home 12-10 in the decider.
