The First Division relegation battle is going to be interesting and Fleet A helped their cause by easing past fellow strugglers Frimley B 6-4. Frimley did not help themselves playing just two of whom Keith Falconer won a couple. Tennis A beat Ash A in a double-header winning the league match 8-2. Paul Shakespeare secured a full house whilst team-mates Dave Jarvis and Michael Kwan each won twice. Central B beat Frimley A 7-3 with a maximum from Martin Townshend and duos from Trevor Spraggs and Andy Appleby.
Tennis C, in the Second Division, remain top of the table after a 6-4 victory over Ash C. Ash’s Nigel Tustin was undefeated whilst Mirko Danso and Colin Baggott each won twice for Tennis. Ash D remain second after a 7-3 success over Tennis E. Andy Clegg and Paul Creamer both notched up maximums. Frimley C secured a welcome victory, 7-3 against Crawley Ridge A, to ease away from the relegation area. Gary Nicholson won all three for Frimley with Vasco Correira supporting with a pair. This was matched by Crawley Ridge’s Phil Garrett. Bentley B beat Cody A 6-4 with no player unbeaten on the night. Paul Mission and Duncan Sibbick won twice for Cody as did Paul Farrant and Eric North for Bentley.
The Third Division continues to produce tight matches. Frimley D and E shared the points with the E team’s Ramesh Vasudavemurthy unbeaten and pairs for Ted Cornell and Steve Lawlor for the E team. All the other matches resulted in 6-4 results. Tennis H beat their G team with the G team’s Kim Phillips securing a full house and Tushar Vaja and Graham Rudd bagging braces for the H team. Tennis F maintained their place at the top with victory over Cody B. Yet again the maximum was secured by a member of the losing team, Jock Docherty. Andy Barnard, Peter Butler and Graham McCulley all won twice for Tennis. Ash E beat Crawley Ridge B with Terry French unbeaten and Les Knight winning a couple in support. Mark Stephenson won twice for Crawley Ridge.
In the Fourth Division Tennis K eased past Cody C 6-4. Ken Lewington secured a maximum for Tennis with Joe Sparkes supporting with a duo. This was matched by Cody’s Dave Hewitt. Fleet C beat Ash G by the same scoreline but the star player of the evening was Ash’s Bob Murrell with a full house. Alan Yeung, John Allan and Roy Chittenden all bagged braces for Fleet. Graham Thomas, for Ash F, was another player to register a maximum in a losing cause, 7-3, to Tennis J. Ian Brown, John Page and John Davis all picked up duos for Tennis. As expected Crawley Ridge D whitewashed Cody D thanks to Eric Wong, David Marchant and Yeuk Wan.
