The second Round of The Handicap Cup disappointed with few close match results. The closest was Tennis A’s 6.5 to 5.5 success over Crawley Ridge C. All players achieved at least a half point and all players were beaten during the evening. Dave Jarvis won a couple for Tennis as did the Crawley Ridge duo of Yuriy Schulzhenko and Derek Lee. Tennis winning the first two doubles was critical. Tennis H beat club mates the E team 7-5 with Tushar Vaja unbeaten in singles. Stuart Middlemiss and Roger Whichelow each won twice for the E team. Tennis K beat Cody D 7.5 to 4.5. Joe Sparkes was unbeaten in both singles and doubles with team-mate ken lewington winning a couple of singles. Nigel Wilshire won twice for Cody. Tennis C also won 7.5 to 4.5 against Fleet B. Colin Baggott won a couple of singles and drew the other one. Team-mates Mirko danso and Shaun Newbold each won a couple of singles. Frimley F also triumphed by the same score, against Tennis F. Frimley’s success in the doubles, winning all three, was crucial together with a couple of singles wins for Alistair Sutherland. Peter Butler and Graham McCulley each won twice for Tennis. Frimley E’s victory over Ash C was a team effort with all three of the team winning two singles as did Ash’s Frank Winnard.
Several matches finished 8-4. Tennis B beat Cody X with all the Tennis squad, Simon Turner, George Earle and Dave Hewitt winning twice apiece. It was similar when Crawley Ridge A beat Ash F with all their players, Phil Garrett, Mark Stephenson and Dave Skellern winning a couple. In the Ash G win over Frimley B Dave Brown won all his singles for Ash with Ray Mears supporting with a double. Alan Burkey was unbeaten for Braybrooke B in their defeat against Tennis D. Other unbeaten players in bigger victories were Dave Phelps and Dave Gilham for Ash A against Frimley C, Phil Snelson for Central A against Frimley A, Eric Wong and Yeuk Wan for Crawley Ridge D against Cody C and Paul Creamer for Ash D against Ash E.
There was one KO Cup quarter final played in the Second Division with Tennis C beating their D team 7-2. Shaun Newbold won all three for the C team with team-mates Mirko Danso and Pu Zhang each winning twice.
