The Handicap Cup keeps producing tight matches and the semi-final between Tennis G and Tennis H was no different. The H team raced into a 3-0 lead with Michael Wolfe beating Peter Bone, John Page overcoming Mehrdad Abutalebi and Roger Whichelow proving too good for Martin Evans. The G team then won the first doubles but Wolfe’s win over Abutalebi restored the three win cushion. The G team started to fight back with Bone beating Whichelow and Evans and Page tieing. When the G team won the second doubles they were only one win behind. A tight win for Whichelow over Abutalebi moved the H team to the brink of victory but the G squad were not finished with Evans beating Wolfe and Bone overcoming Page. The final doubles was reached with the match score level. The G team won the first set but with the H team winning the other two sets it was them who triumphed.

The First Division Cup semi-finals were one-sided affairs. Central B beat Ash A 8-1 with both Martin Townshend and Andy Appleby undefeated whilst Scott Ayers won twice. In the other semi-final Bentley A beat Tennis A 7-2. Richard Seymour recorded a maximum for Bentley with Graham Diplock and Micky Lang each winning twice both losing to Tennis’ Paul Myers. This matched doubled as a postponed league match from before Christmas.

In the remaining Second Division Cup semi-final Braybrooke A beat Frimley B 6-0. Mark Armstrong, Robert Hawes and Yizhong Wei all bagged braces for Braybrooke. Ash C will now meet Braybrooke A in the final.

The remaining Fourth Division Cup semi-final between Ash G and Frimley E was a tight affair with all players winning and losing. Frimley started well with Charles Rhodes beating Sheila Pretty and whilst Bob Murrell beat Steve Chapman to level the match Ramesh Vasudamurthy beat Janet Guess and Rhodes beat Murrell to give Frimley a 3-1 lead. Pretty then overcame Vasudamurthy to bring Ash back into the match but with Chapman beating Guess Frimley needed just one of the final three matches. Amazingly Ash won them all with Murrell beating Vasudamurthy, Guess beating Rhodes and Pretty completing the win with victory over Chapman. Crawley Ridge C await in the final.

In the First Division Fleet A beat Tennis B 6-4 with all the Fleet team, Fallon Thompson, Lawrence Dack and David Joyce each winning twice as did Tennis’ Paul Shakespeare.

The second Division remains very tight with Bentley B edging past Cody A 6-4 with Robin Street winning twice for Bentley and team-mate Paul Farrant bagging a brace as did Cody’s Peter Anthony. Frimley B and C shared the points with the B team’s Clive Welsman notching a maximum. Hilary Greig and Gary Nicholson each won twice for the C team. Braybrooke A eased past Tennis E 6-4 thanks to a Mark Armstrong full house and a couple from Mick Rumbold. Peter Killick won twice for Tennis.
