Tennis G, in the Third Division, are aiming for a treble. They are already in the final of the KO Cup, semi-finals of the Handicap Cup and are now forging a lead in the league. Their latest success was an impressive 8-2 victory over Ash D. Both Peter Bone and Martin Evans secured maximums. Crawley Ridge B kept in touch with a 7-3 success over Frimley D. Phil Garrett was unbeaten for Crawley Ridge with Dave Skellern and Stephen Bridle both bagging braces. Ash E beat Tennis F in one of those matches where everybody won and lost. The Ash trio of Margaret Thornton, Terry French and Dave Brown each won twice. Cody D beat Fleet B 7-3 with Alan Richards undefeated for Cody and team-mate John Sheehy winning a couple as did Fleet’s Rob Brook.
There were some large victories in the Fourth Division with the top two winning 9-1. Crawley Ridge C beat Ash F with Richard Hornby and Mark Stephenson unbeaten and Yuriy Schulzhenko winning twice. Frimley F beat Tennis J with Ted Cornell and newcomer Kieran Daniel recording trios whilst Gary Smith won twice in support. Meanwhile Braybrooke B went one better whitewashing Cody F. Kenny Duarte, Malcolm Codd and Sandra Jackson doing the damage. Much closer was the encounter between Tennis H and Frimley E which was edged by Frimley 6-4. Ramesh Vasudevamurthy secured a full house for Frimley with Charles Rhodes supporting with a duo. This was matched by Tennis’ Michael Wolfe. Cody E and Ash G shared the points with no player unbeaten. Bob Murrell and Ray Mears won twice each for Ash as did John Asprey and Dave Hewitt for Cody.
The bottom two teams in the First Division met with Ash B beating Tennis C 7-3. Daniel Koenigsberger won all three for Ash with team-mates James Wyncoll and Paul Rumble each winning twice. Leaders Central A could only share the points with Ash A. Paul Baker secured a full house for Central with Dave Phelps and Nick Mills both bagging braces for Ash.
Tennis E secured a welcome win in the Second Division when they beat their D Team. Peter Killick and Graham McCulley each won twice for the E team as did Pu Zhang for the D squad. Braybrooke A dented Cody A’s hopes of promotion with a 6-4 success. The win was built on another full house from Yizhong Wei whilst Keith Russell won twice for Cody. Ash C beat Frimley C 7-3 with Nigel Tustin unbeaten for Ash and Frank Winnard supporting with a pair. Anthony Connelly won twice for Frimley.
There was yet another 6-6 draw in the Handicap Cup. Cody E hosted Crawley Ridge A and Crawley Ridge dominated the singles with Ken Thompson unbeaten and Russell Gibbs winning a couple as did Cody’s Malcolm Moran-Ellis. Cody won all three doubles but these were relatively tight whereas many of the singles had been won by Crawley Ridge by large scores so it was them that progressed by 15 points. The other quarter-final was won by Cody C 7-5 against Tennis C. Yet again the doubles were critical with Cody winning all three. Every player at least tied a singles although Tennis’ George Earle went away with the best individual record.
