Frimley D, in the Third Division, achieved their best result of the season when they beat promotion favourites, Tennis F, 7-3. All the Frimley players, Gary Nicholson, Barry Baxter and Anthony Connelly won a couple apiece as did Tennis’ Paul Jarvis. Cody C beat Tennis G 9-1, to narrow the gap at the top, with both John Harvey and Jock Docherty securing maximums and Stuart Stone won twice. Crawley Ridge A beat Ash F 6-4 with Ash’s Karim Lawji winning all his three. Richard Pape, Russell Gibbs and Corin Moore all bagged braces for Crawley Ridge.
Bentley A, in the First Division are moving ominously up the table with their latest success a 9-1 thrashing of Tennis C. Andy Mudie and Steve French were both unbeaten with Micky Lang supporting with a duo. Central A, with only two players, beat Tennis A seriously denting their title prospects. Phil Snelson was undefeated with Peter Millard contributing a couple to the Central cause. Tennis B beat Ash A 7-3 with Paul Myers notching a trio and George Earle chipping in with a couple. Dave Halfpenny won twice for Ash. Central B maintained their push for the title with an 8-2 success over Cody A. Andy Appleby was unbeaten for Central with Robin Pretty and Dave Phelps supporting with a brace apiece but neither could get the better of Cody’s Kin Chan.
Promotion contenders in the Fourth Division Crawley Ridge B could only share the points with Broadmoor C. Gabriel Ailiaoe won all three for Broadmoor with Peter Greenwood-Sleep and newcomer David Marchant each winning twice for Crawley Ridge. Ash G eased past Fleet B 6-4 with Ray Mears unbeaten for Ash and team-mate Bob Murrell bagging a brace as did Rob Brook for Fleet. Cody E consolidated their top spot with a 9-1 mauling of Ash K. Nigel Roberts and Vic King were both unbeaten with Alan Richards winning a couple. Cody F went one better when they whitewashed Ash J with the very strong team of John Sheehy, Phil Russell and Nigel Willshire. Tennis J picked up another good win, 8-2, against Frimley E. Charles Burton secured a maximum whilst team-mates Dave Lewis and Graham Rudd each won twice but both lost to Frimley’s James Maxwell. Ash H and Tennis H shared the points with all players winning and losing. Darren Milstead and Brian Lunn each won twice for Ash which was matched by Tennis’ John Page.
In the Second Division Broadmoor A beat Frimley B 7-3 with Tony Gabriel winner all his matches for Broadmoor and Keith Jones supporting with a duo. Hudson Foley won a couple for Frimley. Two results for Fleet A. A 6-4 loss against Old Woking and a draw against Broadmoor B. In the Old Woking match Bill Matlock was undefeated for the Woking outfit with Gordon Aplin winning a couple in support. Lawrence Dack won twice for Fleet. Robert Hawes won all three for Broadmoor in that match with both Dack and David Joyce victorious twice for Fleet. Ash C eased into second spot with a 7-3 victory over fellow promotion rivals Cody B. All the Ash trio, Nigel Tustin, Frank Winnard and Chris Carter won a couple as did Cody’s Dave Stenning.
