The new season in the Aldershot table Tennis League got underway last week with a few matches from the top flight postponed. Ash A took the opportunity to grab the lead in the First Division with an 8-2 win over Frimley A. Ross Saxby was the unbeaten star for Ash with Martin Townshend and Dave Gilham chipping in with pairs. The only other match in the division, between Tennis A and Challoner was drawn with no player unbeaten. Kevin Bown and Eliot Tilley each won twice for Tennis as did Steve Collins for Challoner.

Bentley B started the best in the Second Division with a 9-1 mauling of Fleet CC A. Paul Farrant and Eric North picked up maximums whilst Bob Walker only lost to David Joyce. Tennis C gave newcomers, Frimley C, a rude awakening as to the standard of the higher division recording an 8-2 success. Colin Baggott and Neil Print both got full houses whilst newcomer Rob Gladstone won twice for Tennis. The match between Cody B and Cody C was won by the B team 7-3 with Kin Chan and Dario Cereda both unbeaten. Meanwhile Cody A were also winning 7-3, this against Fleet CC B. Peter Anthony was the hatrick hero for Cody A. The remaining matches in the division saw the spoils shared. Ash C and D had Mike Levey picking up the full house for the C team and Nigel Tustin grabbing a brace for the C whilst Chris Dury also won twice for the D team. Frimley B and Tennis D also drew with Tim Ngyou the unbeaten player for Frimley. Graham Dickson and George Carder won twice apiece for Tennis.

In the Third Division Broadmoor C whitewashed Crawley Ridge A with Tony Gabriel, Keith Jones and Pu Zhang turning out for Broadmoor. Tennis F also won well with a 9-1 defeat of Frimley E. Ron Wale and George Carder picked up full houses with Ian Brown bagging a brace. Broadmoor B beat Ash F 8-2 with Mark Armstrong and Mick Rumbold unbeaten while Tennis E, after relegation, started this campaign with a 7-3 win over Frimley D. Peter Killick and Andy Murdock were both unbeaten for Tennis. Ash G just got the better of Cody D, 6-4, with newcomer to the league, James Wyncoll, undefeated. Dave Hewitt and Bob Fenner each won twice for Cody. Tennis G also won 6-4, this against Ash E. Bob Brown won all his three for Tennis with Terry French and Les Knight notching duos.

In the Fourth Division Ash H whitewashed a two man Crawley Ridge B outfit with Ray Mears, Darren Milstead and newcomer James Rice the victorious trio. Fleet CC D turned up against Ash J with just two players but Paul Rumble and Andrew Blunden picked up all the seven points available to them. All the other matches in the division were close, 6-4. Cody F beat Tennis H but none of the Cody team could get the better of John Page. Alan Richards and Kim Phillips each got two for Cody. Cody E overcame Ash K by the same score with Wanda Hutchinson notching a full house for Ash. Performance of the match was Phil Russell junior’s brace in his first league match. Norrie Short also picked up a pair. Roy Chittenden proved to be the star in the Fleet CC C match against Frimley F. His full house and a duo from Rob Brook proving critical. Ryan Seager won twice for Frimley.
