Barry Morten and Clive Banham were both on treble form for Broadmoor A in the 1st Division of the Aldershot & District Table Tennis League, their hat tricks meant a 9-1 win over Tennis A, Eliot Tilley winning the solitary point for the Farnborough outfit, elsewhere Ash B continued their solid start to the season in beating Tennis B 6-4, however also showing good form is Tennis’ Paul Myers who scored a solid three. Graham Watts led Ash A to an 8-2 victory at Central B, his triple was supported by two from Scott Ayers, which included an excellent fifth end win over Dave Phelps. Central A’s Pete Millard, Phil Snelson and Dennis Perrett were all in serene mood as they steamrollered Frimley A 10-0 to move to the top of the table, in contrast bottom team Cody A put up a good fight, Pete Anthony winning two, but were ultimately outclassed as Challenor saw them off 7-3.
In Division 2, Jonathan Fallon was unbeatable and well supported by two’s from Hilary Greig and David Mackinnon as Frimley B eased past Cody C 8-2, Keith Russell and Dario Cereda were also on the pace as their hat tricks were too much for Tennis E, Cody B winning 8-2. Old Woking came through a tough encounter at Fleet CC A, Frank Roberts was the difference for the relegated team who are looking to bounce back to the top flight, his three was the reason for a 6-4 win.
Keith Johnson (3) beat Ray Mears (2) in the first game of the night and that was the difference for Tennis H who edged Ash F 6-4 in the 3rd Division, it couldn’t have been much tighter in the battle of the G teams, as everyone won at least one match, but Ray Eason of Tennis saw off Ash’s Dave Brown in the finale to sneak it 6-4. John Ball and Anthony Connelly chalked up three a piece for Frimley D and Paul Phelan backed them up with two of his own as Fleet CC B were swept aside 9-1, the 8-2 scoreline didn’t tell the whole story as the final five matches all went to the deciding end but Frimley C’s Peter Glass and Robeen Roopun each won all three to see off a spirited Ash D. Michael Fox was unbeatable on the night but saw his Frimley E slip to a 6-4 loss at Crawley Ridge A, Geoff Green and Ken Thompson won two each for the home team, Sandy Simpson was also unlucky to be on the losing side as her three wins were in vain for Ash E, doubles from Ron Wale and George Carder meant Tennis F tickled out a 6-4 win.
