Clive Banham and Ian Cole both eased to maximums as Broadmoor A crushed Ash B 8-2 in Division 1 of the Aldershot & District Table Tennis League, elsewhere it was top v bottom and the league positions didn’t lie, Andy Mudie, still unbeaten all season, Micky Lang and Steve French each blazed their way to three wins as Old Woking succumbed to nailed on champions Bentley A. Central B brushed away the challenge of Tennis A, the relegation candidates going down 9-1, Dave Phelps and Robin Pretty were untouched on the night as Jackie Rice weighed in with two. Challoner should be safe from relegation after a deserved 6-4 victory over Ash A, Trevor Spraggs, Diane McLellan and Martin Rozario winning two each.
Cody A had Pete Anthony to thank for their 7-3 win over Ash C in Division 2, his solid three was well supported by a couple from Paul Mission. Kin Chan had the unfortunate stat of winning an end 11-0 but ending up the loser, Ash’s Frank Winnard coming back to see the win out 11-9 in the fifth. Everyone won at least one match but it was Bentley B who won the day, duo’s for Bob Walker, Eric North and Andy Cunningham seeing off the challenge of Tennis C 7-3. Frimley B were beaten 7-3 at Cody B but Hilary Greig was in top form for the losing side, winning all three against higher ranking opposition, her highlight a nail biting 13-11 in the fifth win over Dave Stenning. David Mackinnon won the final match of the night but that was it for Frimley C who were thumped 9-1 by Tennis D, Neil Print and Colin Baggott both tripled up.
Terry French was on top form for Division 3’s Ash D winning his three, Dave Bentall and George Carder backed him up with braces apiece as Tennis E were swept aside 7-3. Frimley D and Tennis F played out a tight five all draw, Frimley’s Anthony Connelly and Tony Harrison had their doubles matched by Ron Wale and Ray Eason for Tennis. Broadmoor C’s John Brunton won two five enders but that was the extent of the challenge as Geoff Green’s trio led Crawley Ridge A home 8-2. Sandy Simpson eased to three wins for Ash E as they claimed a 5-5 draw from Fleet CC B, Jeremy Fox and Andy Blunden both won two for Fleet.
In Division 4, Fleet CC D won the last four games of the night to snatch a five all draw at Tennis H, Rab Guthrie was the main man claiming a hat trick for Fleet. Terry Kavanagh was on form for Ash J, his three and two from Bill Abbott meant they came out 7-3 winners at Cody F. Terry couldn’t manage another triple but he, Bob Powney and Ray Mears all won two as a busy J team beat stable mates Ash K 7-3. Dave Phillips impressively won all the points for the losing side. Frimley E won a pretty hard fought match against Ash H 8-2, Barry Jones and Paul Phelan both doing well to end up with three’s apiece.
