Broadmoor A walloped Frimley A 9-1 in Division 1 of the Aldershot & District League to storm ominously up the league. Barry Morton and form man Clive Banham both secured maximums whilst Graham Diplock contributed two. Graham Watts and Martin Townshend both won three each to lead Ash A to a surprising 8-2 win over Central B. Dennis Perrett proved he's still a force to be reckoned with as he trebled up for Central A, team mate Paul Myers won a thriller, coming from two down to beat Graham Dickson in five, on his way to a solid two in a 7-3 win over Tennis B, Keith Winter picked up two for Tennis. Dave Halfpenny was the star of the show for Ash B, his three wins were largely responsible for Ash clambering to a 5-5 draw against Cody A for whom Peter Anthony and Kin Chan both chalked up a couple of victories.
A Bill Matlock three helped Old Woking to a 7-3 win over Frimley B in the second Division, Nick Gould impressed in the supporting role with two. Fleet CC A only turned up with two men but still managed to snatch a 6-4 win at Cody B, Dave Joyce (3) and Sameer Pathak (2) were the heroes for Fleet. Dick Deacon won the game of the night 14-12 in the fifth against Nigel Tustin but couldn't inspire his Broadmoor B team as they went down 6-4 at Ash D. Frank Winnard claimed a hard earned three for the home side. Paul Shakespeare and Neil Print both scrapped their way to three wins as Tennis D beat Tennis E 7-3 in a hard fought derby, the doubles summed up this close encounter, the D team claiming it 11-9, 13-15, 9-11, 13-11, 11-9. Mike Levey lost the fourth leg of a marathon with Dave Hewitt 20-18 but still managed to triumph on his way to a duo for Ash C who overcame Tennis C 7-3. It wasn't Dave Hewitt's night, Martin Gilbey fought back from two down against him to win deuce in the fifth for his third win of the night.
Cody D upturned the apple cart in beating their C team 6-4 in Division 3, two's for Andy Stenning and John Asprey were just enough for the victors but neither could master David Thomes who won all three but ended up on the losing side. Bob Walker strolled to a hat trick of wins as his Bentley B edged Farnham Cohesion A 6-4, Les Vaill backed him up with two. Half the matches went to the fifth and final end meaning for a long but ultimately fruitfull night for Ash E as they sneaked a 6-4 win over Frimley E. David Mackinnon and Paul Phelan for Frimley and Dave Bentall and Terry Kavanagh for Ash all cancelled each other out with two, so the clincher was Terry French's victory over Roger Wichelow. Colin Baggott and Eliot Tilley both went home with all three as Tennis F eased past Frimley D 9-1. The ladies of Ash F beat Frimley C 6-4, Sandy Simpson leading the way with three, ably supported by Sheila Pretty's two. Keith Bredin didn't drop an end all night in breezing to three wins for Tennis H, who secured a 7-3 win against their G team.
Fleet CC B racked up an 8-2 win at Ash K in Division 4, Chris Carter (3), Andy Blunden (2) and Marge Massey (2) did the damage. Norrie Short (2) pulled himself back from the brink to beat Brian Lunn (2) 11-9 in the decider to inspire Cody E to a 7-3 win over Ash J, Bob Fenner had Norrie's back with two of his own. Michael Fox with three saw Frimley F to a 6-4 triumph over Cody F, the only match that lasted more than three ends saw James Hodges beat Steve Chapman in five, both ended up with two wins though at the end of the night.
